With St. Patrick’s Day this weekend everyone is looking forward to celebrating with plenty of green and shamrocks, but today we’re covering some ways you can keep your home green all year-round. Here are some tips on decorating and incorporating green into your home.
1.) Accent with Accessories
You can give a dull or plain room a lot of color by accessorizing. It works a lot like a plain dress, you just need to get the shoes and jewelry to give it that extra pop! A room is no different, in space with boring white walls buy some green candles, a green vase, add a few green throw pillows, and finish it off with a green lampshade. It doesn’t take any commitment, just a bit of shopping. Just adding these items and accent pieces here and there will make everything a little brighter and give the room some personality.
2.) Get green with greenery
Naturally plants come to mind when we’re talking green. Plants come in such a variety that you’re really not tied down to just one look or vibe when you decide to add a couple pots or bouquets in your home. You can have a cactus, a bouquet of wildflowers, a small tree, whatever your heart desires! You can’t go wrong with a plant, just so long as you water it enough and keep it going strong.
3.) Make it Fab with Fabrics
Most rooms offer plenty of opportunities to incorporate plenty of green fabric. Curtains, bed spreads, couches, pillows, and more can have a whole range of different greens. Don’t be afraid to dabble in some different fabrics, in cottons, silks, or velvets and keep your mind open to patterns. Much like the accessories, you can really give a space a facelift with a change of a few fabric choices.
Here’s a green DON’T: Going heavy on lots of prints can get crazy and overwhelming to the eye but doing everything in the same prints and textures can get very one dimensional and boring very quickly. When decorating really try to keep a balance and only use prints when appropriate, but don’t get too stuck on one design.
4.) Revive a Room with a Rug
Rugs again aren’t necessarily permanent, and there are some great rugs out there that come in some nice shades of green. Toss one under the table or in your entry way and you’re good to go. Sometimes it might be best to find a rug that just has touches of green also, that way it pulls out the other green accents in the room.
Here’s another green DON’T: Don’t confuse the word rug with carpet. A rug is smaller and just rolls out over your existing floor for a bit of comfort and decoration. A carpet however covers the entire floor space and a green carpet might be channeling the 70’s just a little too much. So embrace the green rug, and avoid a green carpet.
